How to write a cursive capital X
- Start a little below the top line with a small curve and pull a slant down to the baseline, ending with a curve up to the right.
- Lift the pencil. Start at the top line on the right and pull a straight slant down to the left, crossing the first stroke in the middle.
On these sheets capital X joins the letter after it.
How to write a cursive lowercase x
- From the baseline, make a small hump up to the midline and slant down to the baseline.
- End with a curve up.
- Lift and cross it with a slant from the midline on the right down to the baseline on the left. Like the t cross, it can wait until the word is finished.
Joining cursive x to other letters
Lowercase x starts with an overcurve hump, like n, and leaves from the baseline. Most English x’s come at the end of a word or after e: box, fox, six, next, exit. The join into x rises into the hump; the join out of it starts from the end of the first stroke, not from the cross.
The cross is a separate stroke, so the word is written first and the x crossed afterwards, the same way t is crossed.
Cursive X and print X
Print x is two straight lines crossing. Cursive x is a hump and a slant, crossed by a second slant. Capital X has a curved first stroke and a straight cross, and it joins the next letter from the end of its first stroke.
