How to write capital S

  1. Start just under the top line on the right. Curve up and around to the left, back across to the right through the middle, around the bottom and up to finish on the left.

How to write lowercase s

  1. Start just under the dashed line on the right. Curve up and around to the left, across to the right, and around the bottom to finish on the left.

On the first line of each page, the numbers and arrows show the order and direction of each stroke, and the green dots show where the pencil goes down.

Words that start with s

sun, sit, sad, sock, seal, six.

The third page traces sun, sit and sad. Change it to any word you like, or to a name that starts with S; the name tracing worksheet generator repeats a name across every line.

Letters that start the same way

c, e start by curving up and to the left. Practicing them together builds the same movement.

Questions

Why does my child write s backwards?

A backwards s usually starts at the wrong end. Start where c starts, at the top right, and go up and to the left first. The green dot on the sheet marks that point.

Should my child learn capital S or lowercase s first?

Most preschool programs start with capitals, which are built from straight lines and big curves, then move to lowercase in kindergarten. For writing their name, teach it the way school will: a capital first letter, then lowercase.

Can I print only lowercase s?

Yes. Delete the other lines in the box and keep just s. To fill a whole page with one row of each, type Ss on one line instead.
