How to write capital L

  1. Pull a straight line down from the top line to the baseline, and without lifting, across to the right along the baseline.

How to write lowercase l

  1. Pull one tall straight line down from the top line to the baseline.

On the first line of each page, the numbers and arrows show the order and direction of each stroke, and the green dots show where the pencil goes down.

Words that start with l

leg, log, lip, lid, lamp, lion.

The third page traces leg, log and lip. Change it to any word you like, or to a name that starts with L; the name tracing worksheet generator repeats a name across every line.

Letters that start the same way

i, t are straight lines down. Practicing them together builds the same movement.

Questions

How do I tell lowercase l from capital I and the number 1?

In ball and stick print, lowercase l is just a tall line, capital I has short lines across the top and bottom, and 1 has a small flag at the top. Practice all three on one line: l I 1.

Should my child learn capital L or lowercase l first?

Most preschool programs start with capitals, which are built from straight lines and big curves, then move to lowercase in kindergarten. For writing their name, teach it the way school will: a capital first letter, then lowercase.

Can I print only lowercase l?

Yes. Delete the other lines in the box and keep just l. To fill a whole page with one row of each, type Ll on one line instead.
