  2. Pull a short line across the top.

How to write lowercase i

  1. Pull a short straight line down from the dashed line to the baseline.
  2. Add a dot above it, halfway between the top line and the dashed line.

On the first line of each page, the numbers and arrows show the order and direction of each stroke, and the green dots show where the pencil goes down.

Words that start with i

in, it, ink, igloo, itch, insect.

The third page traces in, it and ink. Change it to any word you like, or to a name that starts with I; the name tracing worksheet generator repeats a name across every line.

Letters that start the same way

Questions

Should the dot on i be a circle?

No, just a small dot, made last. Big circles and hearts slow writing down and get in the way of the line above. Make the line first, then lift the pencil and touch it down once for the dot.

Should my child learn capital I or lowercase i first?

Most preschool programs start with capitals, which are built from straight lines and big curves, then move to lowercase in kindergarten. For writing their name, teach it the way school will: a capital first letter, then lowercase.

Can I print only lowercase i?

Yes. Delete the other lines in the box and keep just i. To fill a whole page with one row of each, type Ii on one line instead.
