How to write capital G

  1. Start just under the top line on the right. Curve up and around to the left, down and around the bottom, up the right side to the middle, then in across to the left.

How to write lowercase g

  1. Start just under the dashed line on the right and make a circle, around to the left, as for a.
  2. Pull a line down the right side, below the baseline, and hook it to the left.

On the first line of each page, the numbers and arrows show the order and direction of each stroke, and the green dots show where the pencil goes down.

Words that start with g

go, gum, gift, goat, girl, gate.

The third page traces go, gum and gift. Change it to any word you like, or to a name that starts with G; the name tracing worksheet generator repeats a name across every line.

Letters that start the same way

a, c, d, o, q start with the same circle. Practicing them together builds the same movement.

Questions

How is g different from q?

Both start with a circle and a line that goes below the baseline. The tail of g hooks to the left; the tail of q goes straight down. Saying "g hooks back, q goes straight" helps.

Should my child learn capital G or lowercase g first?

Most preschool programs start with capitals, which are built from straight lines and big curves, then move to lowercase in kindergarten. For writing their name, teach it the way school will: a capital first letter, then lowercase.

Can I print only lowercase g?

Yes. Delete the other lines in the box and keep just g. To fill a whole page with one row of each, type Gg on one line instead.
