  1. Start at the top line on the right. Pull straight down, then curve around to the left at the bottom.

How to write lowercase j

  2. Add a dot above it, halfway between the top line and the dashed line.

On the first line of each page, the numbers and arrows show the order and direction of each stroke, and the green dots show where the pencil goes down.

Questions

Does capital J have a line across the top?

Some programs add one, many US ones leave it off, and the letters here leave it off. Follow what your child’s school uses. Either way, the hook at the bottom curves to the left.

Should my child learn capital J or lowercase j first?

Most preschool programs start with capitals, which are built from straight lines and big curves, then move to lowercase in kindergarten. For writing their name, teach it the way school will: a capital first letter, then lowercase.

Can I print only lowercase j?

Yes. Delete the other lines in the box and keep just j. To fill a whole page with one row of each, type Jj on one line instead.
