How to write a cursive capital W
- Start a little below the top line with a small curve and pull a slant down to the baseline.
- Curve up to the top line in the middle and slant back down to the baseline.
- Swing up to the top line on the right and finish with a small curl.
On these sheets the letter after capital W starts on its own.
How to write a cursive lowercase w
- From the baseline, swing up to the midline and slant down to the baseline.
- Swing up to the midline and slant down again.
- Swing up to the midline a third time and end with a short sidestroke to the right.
Joining cursive w to other letters
Lowercase w starts with an ordinary upstroke but ends at the midline, like b, o and v. The common pairs are wh (the sidestroke climbs to the top of the h), wa and wo (it runs along the midline into the oval), and we (it dips for the loop).
Going into w after o, as in cow and snow, the join stays at the midline and the first upstroke is only a short slant down.
Cursive W and print W
Print w is four straight slants with sharp points at the bottom. Cursive w has rounded bottoms, three upstrokes and a sidestroke at the top. Capital W is a large rounded W that ends with a curl at the top and does not join.
