How to write a cursive capital F
- Pull a slant down from the top line to the baseline, curving to the left at the bottom and ending with a small hook up.
- Lift the pencil. Make a wavy cap stroke across the top, from left to right, so it sits on the slant.
- Add a short line across the middle of the slant.
On these sheets the letter after capital F starts on its own.
How to write a cursive lowercase f
- From the baseline, swing up to the top line and loop back down to the left.
- Pull a straight slant all the way down, below the baseline.
- Make a lower loop that comes back up on the right and closes at the baseline, then end with a curve up.
Joining cursive f to other letters
f has two loops and leaves from the baseline after the lower loop closes on the right. That closing point is the tricky part: if the bottom loop swings to the left, as in g or j, the f looks like a tall j and the join starts below the line.
In off and puff each f gets its own upper and lower loop. In ft and fr the exit rises straight into the next upstroke, and if needs a long climb from the i to the top line.
Cursive F and print F
Print f is a cane with a cross. Cursive f drops below the baseline and has no cross at all, which surprises most children. Capital F is like a fancy T with a short line through the middle: a curved stem, a wavy top and a crossbar.
