How to write a cursive capital E
- Start a little below the top line on the right. Curve up and over to the left and back in toward the middle, like the top of a backward 3.
- Make a small loop at the middle.
- Curve out to the left and around a larger bottom curve to the baseline, then swing up to the right.
On these sheets capital E joins the letter after it.
How to write a cursive lowercase e
- From the baseline, swing up in a slanted line toward the midline.
- Loop back to the left at the top and come down to the baseline.
- Finish with a curve up to the right.
Joining cursive e to other letters
e starts on the baseline with an upstroke, the same stroke most letters end with, so it joins after almost anything. The hard joins are after b, o, v and w: in be, oe, ve and we the join leaves from the midline and has to dip before it can loop back up. That is where most e’s get lost, and have turns into havi.
e leaves from the baseline. Keep the loop open, with a clear space inside it, so that ee in see and tree reads as two letters.
Cursive E and print E
Print e starts in the middle with a line across. Cursive e has no line at all: it is a small slanted loop. Capital E is a curly shape like a backward 3, nothing like the four straight lines of print E.
