How to write a cursive capital J
- Start on the left, a little below the midline, with a small curve down and up.
- Swing up to the top line, turn back over to the left and pull a long slant down through the baseline.
- Below the baseline, loop back to the left and up, crossing the slant at the baseline, and keep rising.
On these sheets capital J joins the letter after it.
How to write a cursive lowercase j

Joining cursive j to other letters
Lowercase j ends with the same rising stroke from a lower loop as g, y and z, so the next letter joins from the baseline crossing. Few English words have j in the middle, but enjoy and major show the join out of j into a downcurve letter: the stroke rises and arches over into the o.
A short tail that barely crosses the baseline makes j look like i. Let the loop go well below the line.
Cursive J and print J
Print j is a hook below the line; cursive j closes the hook into a loop and adds a lead-in. Capital J changes most: a tall looped letter that starts at the top line and also hangs below the baseline.
