How to write a cursive capital C

  1. Start a little below the top line on the right with a small hook.
  2. Curve up and over to the left, then down the left side in a big curve to the baseline.
  3. Swing around the bottom and up to the right.

On these sheets capital C joins the letter after it.

How to write a cursive lowercase c

  1. From the baseline, swing up to the midline.
  2. Make a small hook at the top, then curve back to the left and down around to the baseline.
  3. Finish with a curve up to the right.

Joining cursive c to other letters

c starts at the midline, so the join into it climbs up and makes a small hook before the curve. From a baseline letter, as in ac or ic, that is one smooth rise; after o or w, as in oc, the join stays high and goes straight into the hook.

c leaves from the baseline. Watch ck in duck and back: the exit of c has to climb all the way up to the loop of the k.

Cursive C and print C

Print c is an open curve, and cursive c is the same curve, slanted, with a lead-in that ends in a small hook. Capital C is nearly the print C too: a small hook at the start and a tail at the end.

Questions

How do I keep cursive c from looking like e?

c has a small hook at the top; e has an open loop. If the hook gets round and closes, the c becomes an e. Saying “hook, not loop” while writing helps.

Is cursive c just a slanted print c?

Nearly. The extra part is the hook at the top, where the joining stroke comes up and turns back. Without it, the c and the stroke before it blur together.

Does cursive capital C join the next letter?

Yes. Capital C ends with a curve up at the baseline that runs straight into the next letter, as in Cat or Carlos.
