How to write a cursive capital B
- Start at the top line with a small hook and pull a slant down to the baseline.
- Go back up the same line to the top, curve out to the right and around to the midline, and make a tiny loop there.
- From the loop, curve out again, a little wider, around to the baseline and back in toward the slant.
On these sheets the letter after capital B starts on its own.
How to write a cursive lowercase b
- From the baseline, swing up to the top line, loop back to the left and pull a slant down to the baseline.
- Without lifting, curve up and around to the right to just below the midline and come back in to close a small bump.
- End with a short flat stroke to the right at the midline.
Joining cursive b to other letters
b is one of four lowercase letters (b, o, v, w) that finish at the midline, not on the baseline. The next letter joins from up there with a short sidestroke. In be and bi the join dips down to make the e or the i; in ba it runs along the midline into the top of the a; in br it barely has room for the point of the r.
Going into b is easy: it starts with an upstroke from the baseline, so ab, eb and ub flow. The usual mistake is letting the end of b fall to the baseline, which turns the bump into an open hook.
Cursive B and print B
Print b is a tall line and a ball. Cursive b has a loop at the top and a small closed bump instead of the ball, and it ends high. Capital B is the closest to print among the looped capitals, but it begins with a hook, and its two bumps meet in a small loop at the midline.
